Personal note: last night I was talking with former Vermont Governor peter Shumlin about the path of civil unions in our state and thanking him for his role in on that first bill as state senator. He told me that when Sanders found out about the bill...
Sanders came into Shumlin’s office and said “This a disaster! Why are you doing this? You are upsetting my working people!”

Sanders did not understand LGBT people as people. Sanders did not understand LGBT Vermonters as in need of civil protections and the rights and responsibilities of civil unions as WORKING PEOPLE in terms of taxation, inheritance, property rights, insurance, social security!

Understand that the only Reason Sanders votes against DOMA the Defense of Marriage Act is because he’s a states rights adherent.
