@ZaidJilani Obviously there's a lot of corruption and a lot of people in it for just power and status, but let them aside for now. Let's only concentrate on the members of the liberal establishment who are pure of heart. They still hate Sanders- in fact, maybe even more than the others.
@ZaidJilani That's because Sanders poses an existential threat to the entire liberal establishment. For decades liberal politics has been premised on the idea that only wonky technocracy can improve conditions, and that big direct changes are impractical both as policy and as voting issues.
@ZaidJilani If Sanders sweeps the election in a big wave to the man that defeated liberal icon Hillary Clinton, that's a repudiation of incrementalism on a massive scale. If he gets in and actually succeeds then it blows up the entire rationale of liberal elites for the past forty years.
@ZaidJilani Literally the entire machinery of liberal politics, from officials to bureaucrats to reporters to pundits to wonks etcetc., all of it comes tumbling down as fidgety, elite-driven incremental change is shown to be both less practical and less popular than direct socdem action.
@ZaidJilani President Bernie Sanders, for tens of thousands of people within the circles of power, means not just an end to the way of life and way of thinking they're used to- it means that all of their life up to now, their Sorkin fantasies of Smart Serious People fixing things- was a lie.
@ZaidJilani Some will have a Road to Damascus moment like Cenk or Daou, but most will rationalize anything to themselves, use any excuse to fight against that because it's worse to them than Trump winning again. If Trump wins they know who they are, the #resistance fighting against evil.
@ZaidJilani If Sanders is successful, they won't even know who they are or what to do with their careers. All they'll know is that they've lived their lives and careers based on a big fat lie.
