It is utterly disgusting to see the levels of #Sinophobia as parents at the @RCHMelbourne have refused to let doctors and nurses of “#Asian appearance” treat their children.
'As if we were the disease': #coronavirus brings prejudice for Italy's Chinese workers.
“In the past few weeks, we have seen Chinese children at school called ‘C**virus’, verbal confrontations between classmates & physical attacks on pupils,”
It wasn’t until she faced bias within the workplace & reading about the rise and return of #AntiAsianRacism resulting from the #coronavirus outbreak she realised no matter how hard she tries to fit in, she will always be different in the eyes of many.
"there is a long history of anti-Asian discrimination in America that gives precedent to racist attacks against Asian Americans because of coronavirus."
We need to stop associating the coronavirus with Asians and start educating others about how there isn’t a correlation between race and the possibility of having the disease. #AntiAsianRacism
"The landlord sent Rajesh out of the house for something, and when he came back the landlord had changed the locks, so he couldn't get in". "He tried knocking on the door & asking the landlord to speak to him, but he wouldn't open the door." #COVID19
When, as early as January, Rome’s Saint Cecilia Conservatory suspended “oriental” students from taking classes, even if they’d never been to China, the Chinese philosopher Yuk Hui denounced the actions as “conducted out of fear, but more out of ignorance”. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
#COVIDIMPACT: “I’ve been speaking to our hate crime lead, & there’s been a 21% uptick in hate incidents against the south & to east Asian community.” says @SusanBaroness of the @ukhomeoffice
"This is why I’ve told my parents they aren’t to go out at all & my white husband is the only one going out to get groceries for both households. It’s COVID19 but also threat of racist acts. Not worth the risk. Sometimes this city really breaks my heart." cbc.ca/news/canada/br…
When will #AntiAsianRacism be seen as a problem? When can we expect the EU member states & north American governments starting to address it?
An increase in the stopping & searching of black people in London – from 7.2/1000 in March to 9.3/1000 in April – is referenced in the report, along with the curfews imposed specifically in areas in France where black, Asian & other communities live.
#AntiAsianRacism: ... only to fail to gain any interviews. So instead he adopted his racially ambiguous nickname instead, and found himself increasingly shortlisted for positions. The kicker?
Our report on #policebrutality shows that the same violent patterns are deployed in different European countries to allow police forces to continue brutalising racialised communities; #structuralracism can no longer be ignored in Europe.
The #Covid19 measures have also allowed police and law enforcement to further brutalise racialised communities. We all remember the #MichelZecler case in France:⤵️
The many systemic human rights violations perpetrated against refugees and migrants in Europe with complete disregard towards the protection of their fundamental rights also clearly demonstrates how institutions in Europe target racialized communities.
The EU #MigrationPact reinforces a narrative focused on exclusion and security at any cost.
It fails to address the impact of structural #racism and how it plays out in practices & policies that put people’s lives at risk. Is this really ‘solidarity’?
An anti-racism THREAD 👇🏿👇🏿
2/ EU migration policies are historically based on racial discrimination and shaped by a neo-colonial approach.
This needs to be addressed, such as the notion of who belongs to Europe and the criminalisation of moving, which disproportionately impacts racialised groups.
3/ The pact does not acknowledge anti-migrant and xenophobic political discourse in many countries, and the impact it has on policy design and practices.
The pact essentially gives a free hand to these countries to detain and return migrants
We should ask ourselves what #Decolonization means to Muslims, Jews, Roma, Afro/ Asian Europeans, People of Colour, LGBTIQ community, CSO's, EU institutions, policy makers of #Europe.
We must decolonise our structures that drive discrimination to built an inclusive Europe.
#Decolonization is essential to address structural racism in EU Member States.
Toppling statues of criminals & racist colonialists is essential to make Europe future proof just as education on the real colonial history of Europe. #BlackLivesMattters

There are also no long-term measures for the future of policing in EU, especially measures & reflection on the use of violence in policing, which is, justified in the text, @KMTaylorBerlin said on the @Europarl_EN resolution.
