@ECMC_UK @ICPVtweets @CR_UK Our non-executive director @ProfessorAGeorge is a #cancer researcher. He’s worked in the field of #immunotherapy throughout his career. He says people can have confidence that research is done ethically, with patients at the centre of the process, because of the work of the HRA.

Your periodic reminder that being chronically ill with something like #cancer and/or being #disabled is a full-time job in addition to your full-time job.
I have been working since 6:30 but have had to spend a couple hours trying to navigate the health insurance bureaucracy.

Last week when I refilled my Rx for one of my lung meds, I was informed the price had been raised to $2,700+ So I have spent hours since attempting to find out how I can get this paid for. HOURS. Kafkaesque hours. And my meds run out tomorrow. It is madness.

The last person I spoke with actually said to me "people think their medication will be paid for magically" and then "I understand how you feel."
And you cannot scream and curse at these folks because they didn't make the rules but...who can afford these meds?

1) So you get a copy of your medical records & dive in, reading line by line, trying to make sense of your new lung #cancer diagnosis.

“Wait a second, this doesn’t sound right. This is a mistake. I don’t have a history of a heart condition & I don’t smoke cigarettes.

2) You call your oncologist’s office to report the mistakes you found & ask to have it updated. You are told to write down the correction & fax it to the office. You do exactly that.

3) At your next follow up appt a month later, you ask the dr if your record was updated & the correction was made.

Your whole world stops
Right there.
Your plans, your future, your hopes, your dreams.
Stopped in a heartbeat.
And replaced by cold fear

You go away, and you try to remember what you were told, about the treatment, what will happen, what will happen after wards, and all you struggle to do is get through the next breath ... and the next... because #CANCER is such a BIG word that it is crushing you

And you look into your partner's face, and he (she) is white, and frightened. And you phone your son/daughter, and there is THAT SILENCE for a few seconds before they speak.
That is what #cancer does: it destroys your body, & your family.

I had another life-threatening heart/lung episode today.
I'm not sure how much of it had to do with my cutting my heart meds back to once a day while appealing the increased price by my health insurance from $120 for 60 pills to $1k for 60 pills.
We had to call 9/11.
Scary.

I couldn't afford to go to the hospital--when you call 9/11 the city charges you $1,200 for the trip to nearest hospital.
They only accept cash.
The EMTs checked me out, told me to take the heart meds the way they were prescribed, established I wasn't in VFib, just SVT AFib.

So all day, instead of doing work that needs to be done, I have been trying to get my heart rate under 140, which given my lung meds increase my heart rate, has been more work: breathing exercises my PT taught me, single nostril breathing @HillaryClinton taught me (try it).
