1. The punishment of ZANU PF youth leaders after their press conference on corruption is a stark reminder that in a kleptocracy any attempts to expose corruption are considered a form of indiscipline. The corrupt get protection while those who raise hue & cry vet persecution.
2. A kleptocracy is a regime run by a cabal that systematically steals public funds & resources. It manipulates legal & economic institutions, plundering public resources for personal accumulation. Anyone who stands in the way is thrown out. In its bare form it’s rule by thieves.
3. There was corruption under Mugabe but the scale & ferocity of theft of public resources since the coup in Nov. 2017 is on another level. The few at the top of the food chain in the ruling elite & their enablers have displayed a voracious & obscene appetite never seen before.
4. In a kleptocracy agencies like @ZACConline are merely of ornamental value. Their presence is a facade to pretend that something is being done when it’s the political party that calls the shots. Kleptocrats don’t give up power willingly because power is their lifeblood.
