There seems to be a widespread acceptance - even amongst people happy to see Andrew Sabisky gone - that his mistake was “old posts from years back on the internet”.

If you believe this...you haven’t even begun to understand the scandal or the problem the UK now faces.

Let’s, for sake of argument, assume UK govt is right:

1. UK won’t align with EU
2. There’ll be advantages to this
3. It will sign trade deals with many countries

A hell of a lot of assumptions - but let’s be generous.

This still would be very problematic for UK.

Here’s why...

Trade - like business in general - has a high degree of inertia.

Factories aren’t built, workers aren’t reskilled, Commission agents don’t change contacts, tastes don’t change immediately the moment trade deals signed. Consumers used to certain goods will stay with these...

An example:
The UK car industry won’t immediately switch to a world player on the SUV market the moment ink is dry on a non-EU trade deals.

UK consumers or UK dealers won’t immediately stop buying EU made cars simply because tariffs/frictions now exist between them.

Liberals complaining the problem is "too many lies in media" miss the point.

Many Brexit & Trump supporters arent fooled by the lies. It is that they embrace Brexit & Trump for what it is: "fascism-lite" but realise it has to operate under a hypocrisy of post 1960s media norms.

This is why merely correcting many Brexit/Trump lies is often a pointless task - because the person you're explaining it to knows its a lie in the 1st place.

The lie in this context is unimportant - its a device to advance Brexit/Trumpism to the next stage - "fascism-lite"

This doesnt mean you give up - in order to stop fascism you need to ensure that important social groups defend democratic norms.

Fascism rarely wins elections or revolutions - it suceeds when the middle class & elites support or accept it.

MUCH outpouring of love & support for Phillip Scofield for coming out today as gay - & rightly so!!!

I was watching #thebodyinthepool @Channel4 documentary last night, & although at the time of the incident, Michael Barrymore had already publicly come out as gay....
.... I must assert that, although poor Stuart Lubbock died unnecessarily & that someone should be held responsible for the crime, a *HUGE* part of what went wrong that night & all the subsequent covering-up was due to the clandestine nature that gay people have to adopt....
