1) As the UK undergoes the biggest humiliation in living memory, let's just remember how the #Brexit leaders & their jingoism masquerading as patriotism brought us here with an almost elegant level of incompetence & arrogance

2) Firstly let's recall the wasted months of "we can't show our hand/we can't reveal our plan" when in reality there was no #Brexit negotiation plan.

@DavidDavisMP had one joker - bluster. Turn up at the 11th hour and say "give us a trade deal or we both go down"
That's it.

3) Then we had the ERG desperately scrubbing around for months with "maxfac" and magic not yet developed technologies all designed to solve the insoluble in Ireland - if you have different rules either side of a border, you have to have a border. And we can't have a border

4) and now we have the current mess. A withdrawal deal that is simultaneously terrible & the best possible, and an ERG who have run out of ideas, cannot vote for the Brexit they've campaigned & so are left with the "blow it all up" no deal option in desperation

5) there's 4 basic truths that we have needed to shine a light on:
You can have regs alignment either side of a virtual border *or* no alignment & a real border

Brexit is either painful or pointless

The #Brexit MPs could not between them agree on a Brexit option

5) and most importantly, "no deal is not an idea, or a plan, or a proposal

No Deal is the complete absence of ideas, a recognition that there are no options that work on Brexit so it's the equivalent of overturning the monopoly board in frustration

6) so, no #Brexit plan, negotiators who thought putting a gun to your own head was negotiation, an inability by Brexit zealots to accept the reality of the Brexit deal married to a complete absence of alternative approaches

Add a dash of a 2 year fixed clock started carelessly..

7) and we find ourselves sitting outside the door whilst 27 other countries decide our future.

It had nothing to do with Remainers. The "Stab in the back" false narrative was entirely predictable, weak populists have used it to cover their failures for years

8) it has the makings of a great satire - towering arrogance, absence of strategy & a complete failure to understand the actual game.

9) the latest? Mogg threatening the EU27 because he & his cronies failed to vote for the deal on the table

Francois demanding the EU set us free having gleefully voted down the release papers

10) but this is all on brexiters, who planned for years to join the big poker game of Brexit (but only learnt the rules for blackjack), then, having lost heavily on the first hand kept doubling & redoubling to end up all in with "no deal" and a pair of 3's
