2/ The message is this - the 🇪🇺 EU is being unreasonable, cruel, bullying 👿😡, intractable and stubborn. This message will be pumped out through newspaper articles, interviews on TV and radio, blogs and tweets.
3/ why? Simple really. The same people who said that an eu-uk trade deal would be "easy", "simple and quick", that "we hold all the cards" are now running things. The worst thing they want is to be proven wrong, so their only option is to create a narrative of a vindictive 🇪🇺
4/ this narrative of the 'cruel and vindictive' EU 🇪🇺 will serve to distract people. Stop them asking awkward questions and saying to the govt "wait a minute, you said it would be easy?"
5/ the fact of the matter is, we could indeed have a good deal with the EU. Even at this late stage. We are a close neighbour and major trading partner.
6/ but the Government have said to the EU - we want a deal with you better than the Canada-eu [CETA] deal 🇨🇦🇪🇺 but negotiated in less time!! This is what Mrs May said about CETA by the way...
7/ the UK is saying to the EU, we want a better deal than Canada 🇨🇦, negotiated in LESS time; but we don't want to be in the Customs Union, Single Market, efta, and we don't want to have LPF, ECJ or dynamic alignment. And if you don't deliver it YOU (the EU) are bullies
8/ that's right, you heard right folks. Instead of being grown ups and admitting that real negotiations take time and require trade offs, the establishment are happy to scapegoat the EU 🇪🇺 to distract from their own mendacity and inadequacy.
9/ if we had a serious opposition and/or a serious media, this wouldn't be allowed to happen. But we don't. So it will. /end. 😔
