China's Nat'l Health Commission announces drop in new #Covid_19 infections outside Hubei 15 consecutive days. It's too early to be confident. Data may be flawed due to weak surveillance or change of case definition.
I have a much more fund'l concern. Prevailing narrative from China & @WHO is spread outside Hubei is all we care about. That's flat out wrong. Yes, we want to stop spread, but must start caring a lot more re plight of >50 mil in Hubei.
Ongoing threat to physical & mental health in Hubei is unconscionable- trapped together & fearful. Moreover once #Quarantine ends people in Hubei will flee. During Influenza pandemic, 1918 quarantines delayed spread, but over time made little difference.
My bottom line: I remain deeply worried about the health and human rights of people in Hubei province. Should we be willing to trade their health and wellbeing for a possible delay of spread outside the province? We need to begin that ethical and ph conversation.
