A constituent pushes back against S.386:

“My understanding is that country caps were there since 50s to create balance for visas for around the world. Not for one country to dominate. If we remove the country cap, one country would dominate... many are entry-level workers...”

1/ Here’s a short summary of the problematic responses @realDonaldTrump gave to @IngrahamAngle in the interview last night:
The President makes the claim that Japan isn’t opening plants in the US because there’s a “labor shortage”. See the video below:
2/ Toyota didn’t move its plants to Mexico because there was a “labor shortage” in the US. It did it because the cost of labor & tariffs were much more less in Mexico. Mexico is also a huge consumer of Toyota products, so it made sense for them to open a plant there.
3/ The President should have just said what the Koch brothers & the CATO types have been saying: “we need to increase the labor supply & create a surplus of workers so labor costs will go down.” Don’t hide behind the lie that there’s a labor shortage. There isn’t:

Ok - I had to pause my live tweeting when they sat us down behind Joe and told us to put up our phones. But here is what I would have tweeted - in the moment - if I could have.
The place was packed. The venue was essentially a church gym and it was full. All the seats filled and people standing against the walls about 2 or 3 deep.
The crowd was an older group. My rough estimate would say - 80% over 35 & probably 65% over 50. But it was an extremely diverse group.

Portland has been freaking out over @wweek's biased story that @PortlandPolice colluded with right-wing extremists. That is disinformation. The mayor excoriated our law enforcement for the standard practice of communicating with protesters on both sides. oregonlive.com/crime/2019/02/…
The Mayor now says this news creates a "mandate" for all city staff to be re-educated on how to fight "white supremacy." This is a power grab. portlandoregon.gov/wheeler/articl…
Portland's city council also just voted to pull out of the FBI terrorism task force, saying they devote too many resources to investigating Portland's extreme left-wing groups. They also expressed fears that officials would cooperate with federal authorities on immigration.
