This dispatch from Brijpuri, NE Delhi. At 4 pm on Feb 25, a huge mob (eyewitnesses say at least a 1,000) began attack on the Hindu pocket. First target: Arun Public School, run by former Congress MLA Bhishm Sharma. 
The attack ran for 3 hours. The lone watchman guarding the school ran away. The mob took away whatever they could, and took time to destroy everything (including urinals and fans)
Then they attacked the house next to the school belonging to Virender Chaudhary. Then a shop belonging to one Mr. Kapoor. Then office cum residence of Sanjay Kaushik, a distributor of cooking oil.
The mob, multiple eyewitnesses say, were carrying guns and swords. They also brought inflammable material in red drums (see pic) to inflict maximum damage. From behind they were getting supplies of stones on cycle rickshaws.
Sanjay Kaushik has lost everything, he says, including cash and his daughter-in-law’s jewellery. “Bus yeh pant aur shirt bachi hai jo maine pehan rakhi hai,” he said as he broke down. He has no idea how to pick up pieces of his life.
For 3-4 hours, a pitched battle was fought here between Hindus and Muslims. Frantic calls to police (including several on helpline) went unanswered. When the police finally came, the attack changed side. A few hours later, this Madarasa-Mosque was attacked. More on this later.
But a word of caution: do not look for any cause and effect here. There is none. I repeat, absolutely none, in how things unfolded in these parts.
