We received calls from family members who are doctors, said that Wuhan saw a SARS like infectious disease (when there was no public info about it at all, not even rumors yet)
I was on a ski trip with my parents, they were very vigilant and asked me to inform friends

Initially I didn’t see a big deal, since there is no news headline nor even rumor about it
But all my closed family members took it very seriously, maybe due to their past SARS experience when Guangzhou was the epicenter just like Wuhan today

Back from ski trip mom first thing was to load up masks, sanitizers etc
Meanwhile, rumors started to spread out from Wuhan locals
Dr #LiWenliang blew the whistle in his schoolmates wechat group, but clamped down and warned by the police quickly on the 1st

Wuhan public health official made first announcement on then “strange pneumonia”: it’s not human to human transmissible, which turned out to be bloody lies

The virus was being sequenced confirmed it belongs to Coronavirus family, I saw this news on a local scientific outlet
As MERS is also part of that family but didnt cause massive outbreak so I think that’s why this news didn’t trigger much attention

It’s my “birthday week” when I usually stay home with family. Heard more from family members who are doctors that many Wuhan medical staffs were infected and they suspected it’s def SARS 2.0

Little news update, but related experts were sent to Wuhan from Guangzhou according to friends and family who worked with them
Parents are now almost very certain it’s SARS 2.0, mom said I should go back to SF and not stay in China for CNY (on 23rd)

The week before CNY my mom almost prepared everything: masks, disinfectant, gloves, shoes cover etc and all type of at home testers like blood oxygen tester
She said anyway there will be a shortage of supply after CNY when shops are close so better stock up just in case

On 20th the official finally admitted and announced the virus is human to hunan transmissible, two days after the entire Wuhan shut, and following other cities in Hubei shut

Cont. It’s the week of CNY so ppl anyway stay home with family, stock market was on the break too, at the beginning it’s fine, nothing change
the CNY holiday lasted for 7d, at the end of this it there were only more bad news from Wuhan this made entire nation very nervous

Between 1/23 to 1/25, Zhejiang, Guangdong and few others provinces all declared state emergency 🚨
I remembered day before state emergency declared we were still hanging out with family friends and I even had my manicure 💅🏻 done from local shop, the day after everything shut

Mom urged me to fo back to SF immediately as this is exactly repeating the SARS fight 17 yrs ago, Wuhan than was around 700-1000 confirmed cases officially but from local there can be 2-3x worse
(So that’s the same scale as US now most likely)

The under reported number could be both intentionally and was not able to, early Wuhan was a complete hell if any, no test available, hospital overwhelmed, medical staff exhausted, too many regular flu patients flooded the hospital concerned of infection
