Coronavirus Isopropyl Use update.

Dear Nigerians do not let yourself be swindled by pharmacies and stores.
Just get an alcohol that says 70% isopropyl, it doesn't matter what brand as I have noticed people would push certain brands on you.

As a doctor interested in the field of disease and epidemiology, I shall try my best in plain terms to share the importance of proper alcohol and its usage in limiting getting infected with the #Coronavid19.

around the proximity of an infected person who happens to also be coughing or sneezing thereby releasing air droplets and these droplets somehow getting into the Airways / lungs and effecting its damage. Remember this has to be transmitted via Air droplets,

Not by skin to skin (except a sneeze on your skin and you touch that and put in your mouth), not via sexual contact, not from mother to child, not even by standing close to someone who is infected without them sneezing on you.
I have been getting questions on transmission....

and I must say people really need to get the right information so as to not cause public panic.

The reason why 70% isopropyl is a good option in terms of disinfection is because that solution has 70% alcohol and 30% water.
Now how does this work when we use it?

Viral, Bacterial and Fungal cells are made up of protein components. So when we use this on our hands, skins etc... The alcohol in them works by denaturing (destroying their structure) these proteins, thereby making them useless in reproducing more cells.

The 30% water in the alcohol makes the evaporation of the alcohol slow thereby creating a longer surface contact for the alcohol to do its disinfecting job.
Kindly help share. Any generic 70% alcohol is fine with limiting transmission contact wise so let us be guided.

But in all people.... If you cannot buy or get disinfectants due to scarcity or price hike, then just wash your hands as often as you can. Proper hand hygiene can save us all a whole lot of trouble.
