If you believe the tragedy in Syria is due to a pipeline you haven't paid any attention to the region, the complex issues that guide the rebellion, the contracts & money to be made in reconstruction, and the strategic value of Assad for criminal networks.
Petroleum has to do a lot with everything. For example, the EU secretly backs Assad and were weak on defending Ukraine because they have a deal with Russia and Gazprom for their countries and Russia controlling petroleum through Syria benefits them.
Russia is a supplier & EU mostly gets energy from Africa which is why the French & Belgian military is found throughout all of N Africa all the way down to Niger. More Russian supplied oil, gas, would lower energy costs in the EU which = political success.
Libya for e.g., there is a USian leading a militia against the UN-backed Gov in Tripoli. Egypt, UAE, France, Russia, Greece and US have all sent aid to assist in the takeover, Libya's gov signed over its offshore oil contracts to Turkey now. @pat28163505
@pat28163505 The EU and everyone else would prefer alternatives for everything but as reality stands Russia is a partner for the EU, corruption in Syria is not an isolated incident, Assad didn't amass 25Billion in personal wealth alone. His criminal network is global.
