Von der Leyen today at Turkish-Greek border: „We will hold the line.“

I do not understand this language, at least to me it seems like it echoes a language used at war. And we are not at war. Migrants and refugees are not enemies. Some examples in the thread 👇
The Patriot, 1:01
„Hold the line! Hold the line! Hold!“
Gladiator, 0:53
„Hold the line!“

Game of Thrones
„Hold it, lads! Hold the line!“

She also said: „I thank Greece for being our European ‚aspida’ in these times“, which is Greek for „shield“.

I cannot understand how someone cannot find metaphors that dont invoke the feeling of acting against a common enemy.
This after right-wing extremists had taken over some parts of #Lesbos, insulted refugees/migrants, and someone had set a former refugee camp on fire.
Those are her complete remarks, she did not incite violence or so, but this line stood out and stuck with me. Especially since many people here at Evros do believe that the migrants/refugees are the weapon of the enemy.
