THREAD: #COVID19 #Lombardy, where the concentration of confirmed cases is higher, the hospitalized are (compared to the previous days):

3,852/3,319/2,802/2,217/1,661

with a progression of 500 a day--not exponential, yet, but it could become so tomorrow.
In #Lombardy, among the hospitalized #COVID19 patients

38% are 64 to 75 years old;

20% over 75;

32% are 50-64;

9% are 25-49;

1% are 18-24 years old.
In Intensive Care units: 560/466/440/399/359 patients

There are currently 610 ICU beds available for #Covid19 in #Lombardy.

A few hospitals are facing enormous strain.
The #Lombardy Health System has carried out 25,629 #Coronavirus tests so far.

(Total of tests across Italy: 73,154).

Lombardy's population is about 10 millions (between Georgia and North Carolina's).

#Covid_19 -- 03-06: Who are the 197 people deceased in #Italy since the #CoronavirusOutbreak ?

According to the data released today by the ISS (Istituto Superiore della Sanità), the average age of deceased patients is 81 years.

There are 20 years of difference between the average age of the deceased and that of virus-positive patients. Most of the deaths - 42.2% - occurred in the age group 80 to 89 years; 32.4% of the deaths 70-79; 8.4% 60-69; 2.8% 50-59 and 14.1% over 90 years of age.
Women who died after contracting the virus are older than men. The median age for women is 83.4, the median age for men is 79.9.

The majority of patients who died after testing positive for Coronavirus are men.

In this context, the definition of "confirmed case" is a case that shows the symptoms of Covid-19 AND has come out positive in a laboratory test (a tampon, usually tested by a local hospital, and then confirmed by ONE unique centralized laboratory--this process takes a few days).
Other countries are signaling only confirmed cases, as per WHO's recommendations. Since the discovery of a cluster in the south of Lombardy, the Italian health services have applied a strict screening of the probable transmission chain. More extensive testing, more positives.

As an A1AD carrier and 15+yearly sufferer of chronic #bronchitis needing multiple antibiotics every year prior to ‘09 #swineflu scare - I thought if I got It I wouldn’t survive.
I read up on# respiratory issues and the benefits of #VitaminD3. So I started a 5000iu/day regime in ‘09 raising my 25OHD serum levels to 60 ng/ml. I have not had #bronchitis an antibiotic or the #flu since, no longer needed an inhaler for my asthma. Just wanted to put this out

2/ Iran officially reported its first infections and two deaths from the virus in the holy city of Qom on Feb. 19 and the disease is believed to have spread to the country from China.

Finally authorities are putting Mazandaran province on quarantine: only fuel and food trucks are allowed. This late, its effectiveness will be limited.

The same authorities have had argued for quarantine to be "non-scientific" and "from middle ages".
