We should try to avoid meeting this 9/11 with a TSA and then an Iraq.
That is, we need to avoid the fallacy of:

- someone should do something
- this is something
- therefore this should be done

The right solution to this is accelerated diagnostics, drugs, vaccines. Quarantine and travel shutdowns are a temporary step.
There's a scenario where the quarantine bureaucracy hardens into an internal TSA, a system of checkpoints between states.

It'd be one thing if this actually prevented disease, but it could turn out to be similar to airport security theater.

We need to stay absolutely laser-focused on solving this problem with technology (drugs, vaccines, diagnostics, telemedicine, etc) and not setting up some new bureaucracy premised on keeping the country in a permanent state of emergency. theatlantic.com/international/…
