Thread: As Chair of the very newly formed @CASUpdate #PhysicianWellness committee (we have not even had our first meeting yet), I've been thinking &talking alot about the physical & psychological wellbeing of my colleagues amidst #covid19. I applaud leaders like @amit_pawa for 1/
the reminder that it is indeed "OK to *not* be OK". We are facing many unknowns in a rapidly changing situation. We are at the frontline of acute care, charged with performing high-risk procedures in potentially time-pressured and resource contrained systems. The balance 2/
between professional duty&our own health and the health of those we love is at the forefront of our minds. Many of us are likely fluctuating between fear and duty, between calm and storm. Please don't think you are alone in the frenzy of your mind.I'm working on collating some 3/
excellent and readily available resources around how we can best maintain our wellness at this time, and will hope to have these together and available in the next day or so. Social distancing can feel isolating. Driving into the car park at work for your on-call and seeing it 4/
deserted, seeing your colleagues in the lounge and so badly wanting to give them a hug, wanting to break bread together like you usually do when the going gets tough, as a leader wanting to have definitive answers and being caught in a web of uncertainty, not knowing if even 5/
basic needs will be able to be fulfilled as we plan for escalation - all of this is *hard*. Really hard. But that doesn't preclude us from connecting, supporting, sharing in other ways. Check in with your colleagues regularly. Be mindful that we don't always know about the 6/
situation of others' in terms of their health or the health of their immediate family members. Be as non-judgemental as possible and keep in mind we are often not privy tothe stories and situations of others, no matter how closely we work with them. Share your worries, share 7/
good credible resources and references, advocate for one another, know that both leadership and followership are important right now. Be assured that @CASUpdate do have anesthesia provider safety at the forefront of their minds and @Dolores_McKeen is advocating strongly for us 8/
If you have any resources you have come across re provider #safety and #wellness please DM me and I will include them in our @CASUpdate resources. Be well.
