Closing LAUSD was not enough to keep hospitals from overflowing.

We need to send a clear message: UNTIL APRIL 30, EVERYBODY WHO CAN, STAY HOME. NO PLAYDATES. NO OUTINGS. CLOSE ALL BARS, NIGHTCLUBS, AND THEATERS.

#FlattenTheCurve NOW!
As Dr. Bitten says, "We need to push our local, state, and national leaders to close ALL schools and public spaces and cancel all events and public gatherings now."

As the Surgeon General, AOC, and Ted Cruz all agree, everyone who can stay home, should stay home.

If we can get just 7 out of 8 people to stay home, we've got a REALLY GOOD CHANCE of slowing down the pandemic to the point where it does not overwhelm hospitals:

washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/…
So, Mr. Mayor, Dr. Ferrer, Supervisor Kuehl: please act now. Ask everybody who can to STAY HOME UNTIL END OF APRIL, and SHUT DOWN BARS, NIGHTCLUBS, AND THEATERS UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH.

This is the only way to keep our hospitals from overflowing, as in Italy.

Act now.
See how the illness rate started curving steeply upward in New York CIty starting February 28th?

And see how the hospitals are ALREADY OVERFLOWING in Seattle?

ACT NOW. SHUT THE BARS. CALL ON ALL CITIZENS TO STAY HOME IF THEY CAN. BE CLEAR. SAY IT LOUD AND OFTEN.
Anecdotally, the bars are hopping, and that's not a good thing under the circumstances.

This is good, but too wishy-washy. It should say STAY HOME.

But don't take my word for it. Here's the doctor who sounded the alarm on the Flint water crisis:

Newt Gingrich says that, in Italy,

"All restaurants are closed....
all stores except grocery stores and pharmacies are closed...
These steps are not an overreaction..."

We have a chance. Let's heed Italy's warning.

@lapublichealth is saying #flattenthecurve, but they don't get it yet. Ask people to stay home, period, not just when they're feeling sick. Coronavirus is highly contagious several days before symptoms occur.

Closing the borders, domestic travel restrictions, and staying home when sick isn't enough when there's community spreading -- and there's a *lot* of community spreading of coronavirus now.

We need to just stay home. France and Spain are doing this now.

What's the best way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this Tuesday?

STAY HOME.

Googling for 'St Patricks Day Parties Los Angeles' finds dozens. All will spread the virus.

@MayorOfLA, please shut them down. Cancel St. Patricks' Day today. Time is short.

lamag.com/culturefiles/1…
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the federal government’s leading expert on COVID-19 and other infectious diseases, has called for a 14-day shutdown of all bars and restaurants as part of a nationwide lockdown to force social distancing.

LET'S DO THIS. NOW.

restaurantbusinessonline.com/operations/fed…
Back in 1918, when the flu pandemic was starting, St. Louis shut down public gatherings in time, but Philadelphia didn't. Let's not make that mistake again.

Stay well. Stay at home.

thestar.com/news/insight/2…
The NYC Comptroller is calling for a citywide shutdown of bars, restaurants, and theaters. Los Angeles should do the same TODAY, before St. Patrick's Day.

#FlattenTheCurve

Mayor Garcetti, what we've been saying for two weeks isn't enough.

What's happening in Italy and Spain will happen here unless we STAY HOME and SHUT THE BARS.

Please act now, before St. Patrick's day partygoers spread the disease further.

Even Ireland is closing bars and pubs for St. Patrick's Day and through the end of the month.

What better way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than by doing what the Irish are doing?

CLOSE THE BARS NOW.

@MayorOfLA says the bars should close:
latimes.com/california/sto…

Great! Can we make that binding before St. Patrick's day, please? CC @mikebonin @BobBlumenfield @PaulKoretzCD5

Let's #FlattenTheCurve before coronavirus flattens our ICUs!
@CountyOfLA is asking people to #StayHome.

Great! Now can we please close #CloseTheBars before St. Patrick's Day?
A lot of people won't listen to polite requests.

@GavinNewsom calls for bars to close, and for everyone over 65 to #StayHome.

Awaiting details.

It's now official: bars and restaurants in the City of Los Angeles must close except for take-out.

Presumably the executive directive will eventually make it to lamayor.org/mayor_garcetti… ...
But Los Angeles is not enough... and even in Los Angeles, the message bears repeating:

FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS, EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE NEEDS TO STAY HOME except for essential activities like buying groceries.

Los Angeles should consider the kind of near-lockdown order issued by San Francisco. It's much clearer.

sfchronicle.com/local-politics…
California's inching closer to a uniform story on what should close:

And modeling is showing just how much needs to close to avoid overflowing hospitals:

Updated, stricter regulations in Los Angeles. They're calling it "Safer At Home" instead of "Shelter In Place", but it's about the same thing.
