Thread: 1/3 You’re likely hearing about the need to #flattenthecurve. It simply means spreading out the number of #coronavirus cases over a longer timeframe, so our healthcare and response systems don’t get overwhelmed...
2/3 We #flattenthecurve with NPIs- non pharmaceutical interventions (ie things other than medications or vaccines).

NPIs include: handwashing/ personal hygiene, targeted quarantines, school/ business/ closures, telework, limiting social gatherings, and cleaning surfaces
3/3 Life will be VERY different over the next few weeks. But if we all do our part we can spread our cases out, lessen impact to healthcare systems and communities, and get through this.

1/5 A word on #coronavirus testing: Diagnostic testing has moved more rapidly than ANY previous test for a new virus. @CDCgov developed the molecular diagnostic test in the U.S. in a week- while also working to make capability available at state public health departments...
2/5 The current state of diagnostic testing for #Coronavirus is expanding rapidly/ widely- all 50 states now have testing capability. This will support the ability for practitioners to diagnose #COVID19 as community transmission occurs in some areas at this phase of the epidemic.
3/5 In addition to state public health labs, testing will soon be available at many academic medical centers & private sector. @US_FDA has facilitated use of these tests in patients by an Emergency Use Authorization. @CMSGov has created new coding to facilitate reimbursement.

@CDCgov (2/7) Diseases can make anyone sick regardless of their race or ethnicity. People of Asian descent, including Chinese Americans, are not more likely to get COVID19 than any other American.

As we navigate unprecedented times, we must take unprecedented action to help our residents & our economy now & in the future. That’s why I am launching an Economic Support & Recovery Task Force to help protect Toronto’s economic success in the wake of the #COVIDー19 pandemic.
The Task Force will identify immediate and longer-term economic recovery strategies for residents and businesses, with a focus on supporting those segments of the economy that are most strongly impacted by #COVIDー19, such as tourism, hospitality and entertainment.
The focus of the Task Force will be on quickly determining what current supports and stimulus work needs to be done. The City will be working with industry partners to identify actions to support businesses, workers, and residents in responding to the economic impact of COVID-19.

An old friend of mine is a doctor in the Midwest. She also heads up her county’s board of health.

Tonight, she met for 2 hours with colleagues at the local hospital to discuss contingencies as the #COVIDー19 pandemic escalates.

What she described knocked the wind out of me:
“Imagine 6 women, most of them moms, sitting around a table. One nursing a baby. All healthcare providers, making plans. Setting fear aside."

"We discussed things like what do we do when we we run out of hospital beds? Where can we put patients?"
"How do we have enough morphine so that when people are dying and we can't do anything for them, we can at least make them comfortable? How do we make an objective decision on who gets a ventilator and who doesn't, knowing we have only two?"

I gathered some alarming information on the rise of #COVID in Iran in this thread. I can see that it has been read by many hence increases my responsibility on what I share now.
As I stated before:

- I am not a trained reporter or journalist
- I am not based in Iran
- Not affiliated with any poilitical group, for or against the government
- Most of my information comes from the internet with occasional conversations with people in Iran
