on entrusting Mario to others, Miyamoto's role nowadays is setting the boundaries for what Mario can & can't do in any given game; on a practical level, that remains his role bc oftentimes the ppl in charge of a game don't want to make that call themselves, so he does it for them
for games, he errs towards permissiveness (with the right to veto) bc the staff can sometimes be overly conservative, but for something like the Universal collab, it's an unexplored medium so he feels he has to be firmer on what is or isn't okay, but he tries to be accommodating
Miyamoto mentions how one of his first jobs upon joining Nintendo was a licensed Disney board game called Disney no Katei-ban & how he has to visit Disney of Japan to get approval on his Bambi illustrations… I guess that means there's official Miyamoto Disney art out there
(this is the example picture included with the interview—Nintendo made quite a few of these in the '60s & '70s and regularly changed the art, and Famitsu notes that Miyamoto didn't give enough info for them to know precisely which version/s he worked on) 
(those board games were something Miyamoto owned as a child, so they were around a long while before he worked there)
