Jeffrey: The reaction of Syrians to Russian military patrols in #Idlib is not surprising. For nearly a year the Assad regime - with Russian & Iranian support - has conducted a reckless & ruthless military offensive in Idlib that has killed & wounded thousands of civilians. #Syria
Amb. Jeffrey: The military solution the Assad regime hopes for, with support from Russia & Iran, is not achievable & will not bring peace to #Syria. Russia’s support for the depraved Assad regime has only further destabilized the country and region.

.@StateDept: There is no doubt about #Assad regime's pattern of chemical weapons. Since 2014, the OPCW assigned responsibility to Assad for multiple sarin & chlorine attacks. We've noticed there’s an awful lot of Russian #Propaganda out there, so we thought we’d offer some facts:
FACT: The #Syrian regime used chemical weapons near #Douma on April 7, killed at least 45 people and sickening hundreds more. Our information is consistent and corroborated by multiple sources, from military intelligence to social media users, NGOs to international organizations.
FACT: The joint U.S.-UK-France strikes were a justified, legitimate and proportionate response to the #Syria government's continued use of chemical weapons on its own people.

De facto leader of #Idlib (المحرر) Golani warns everyone in a long speech to media activists that he stands against #Astana & all political initiatives to settle #Syria ‘s conflict. He reminded his listeners that his men sacrificed with their lives to have control of the province
2-Golani thanks the Muhajereen (foreign fighters) & reiterated the importance of having them become part and parcel of the uprising. He also thanked civil defense and the media who “took risks as suicide bombers do” when it came to their courage in reporting on the conflict
3-Golani also congratulated the different armed groups for coming together and uniting in fighting against the enemy and its allies through the use of clever and experienced military tactics

Thread on the ongoing efforts to start joint Russian-Turkish patrols in Idlib's buffer/desecration zone:
1- Russian and Turkish troops have recently announced their plans to start joint patrols to secure greater #Idlib, the last rebel stronghold in northwest #Syria.
2- The agreement was first announced in #Moscow on April 9 during a visit by #Turkey's President Erdogan. The deal was then discussed with the rest of the parties (namely Iran, regime and rebels) during the 12th round of #Astana Process peace talks which took place recently.
3-The joint patrols were presented, along with other measures, to reduce violations in the Idlib and ensure stability in the region. The patrols are supposed to be limited to the buffer zone (i.e. not the whole region) &stretch from northern Idlib city to southern #Aleppo
