Let me share the success story of containing #ChineseVirus by India. Fingers Crossed. Shared by a Doctor.

1. Effective governance. No panic buying, no panic and effective monitoring. Everyday, Docs along with co-workers have to spend an hour each day writing reports and feeding

it into a nationalized health care digital grid that gets updated every 2 hours.

2. Covering the most vulnerable population first.... As an example, if you go on the street, you'll see homeless people having masks and care packages.

3. Immediate nationwide protocols for doctors and immediate training for doctors who would be affected the most- Anesthesiologists, Internists, Critical Care physicians. We stopped all elective procedures and sent all unnecessary personnel home.

4. Setting up isolation wards and testing centers. In 2 weeks the number of testing centers went from 1 to 66 so far and that number is growing to 10 per day.

5. Identifying the virus phase and spread, as of now India is in phase 2 which is the localized transmission spread.
Most of Western Europe is in phase 3 or 4- which is community based transmission and epidemic spread. So in India we use 4 criteria to test, 3 of the 4 criteria

need to be satisfied, because we can't test everyone as there would be false positives too (we must remember that this is Influenza season, so merely having a sore throat without a history of exposure or travel history is not sufficient enough to test for Coronavirus.)

6. India has already started phase 3 clinical trials while the virus was still in its infancy with anti retroviral drugs and anti influenza drugs. We have been instructed to treat patients as based on case by case basis as such.

7. As of now there are 2 million and growing

Coronavirus testing kits.

8. Putting places in lockdown if they report even a couple of cases. Eg. Ladakh was put into lockdown because 1 soldier tested positive for Coronavirus.
Even before phase 1, India got all its citizens back and started a partial lockdown.

When Phase 1 started, all visas were suspended.

9. Public dissemination of information. If U open up YouTube, U can see Indian government is running ads. If you try 2 call someone, there is a public broadcast message that plays for 30 seconds b4 you can call someone, everytime.

10. Lastly, Modi, Modi, Modi, Modi! That man has been going around the country inspecting facilities and working tirelessly. He conducted a SAARC meeting and so the entire South Asian region is sharing data and information (as a result, we are up to speed with what is going on in

let's say Kathmandu as much as we know what is going on in Delhi) And he even suggested a G20 meeting, which is being backed by atleast 15 members so far.

Hence the success. Let’s pray this success remains.
