This chart does not account for size of population when comparing infection rate or the minuscule amount of deaths. China has 1.4B people, four times the population of the US qt 327m. Italy is 60m, Iran 80m and South Korea has only 50m people. Note how steep the US curve is. 
What is surprising is the death rate is double among men and almost always in the elderly. This global effort to slow transmission is really about preserving a very small group of elders with compromised health or in their later years. Those born in 1950 and before.

What is unique and dangerous is how the "idea" of coronavirus became viral. Literally consuming the population with fear and causing the govt to shut down businesses at an exponential impact far beyond that of the virus. Probably the most asymmetrical weapon I have ever seen.

The binary idea of sick or not is something that has to be modified to accept that epidemics are not only normal but relative in harm...and have secondary and tertiary effects. Crime, addiction, poison, etc are all managed risks. COVID 19 is splendid case for free health care.
