This is the solution to an election in a pandemic.
Please call your senators (202) 224-3121 to urge them to support it.
Remember . . .
1/
Under the Constitution, Trump and Pence’s terms end at noon on January 20, 2021.
Republicans should also get behind this bill because if something goes wrong with the election. . .
2/
U.C. Davis Law Professor @carltonfwlarson says there’s a colorable argument that the designation of Speaker of the House outlasts any particular House.
3/
Each state administers its own election.
How to persuade GOP Senators to get behind the bill?
Remind them that if something goes wrong in November, they'll say "President Pelosi" in January.
Well, it seems to me that if a state fails to hold an election, they may not be able to send any Representatives to Congress . . .
California has mail in ballots, so if states like Tennessee want to allow California to select the next president, I'm totally cool with that.
You see, the drafters of the Constitution had the foresight to know that some doofus president might try to overstay his welcome.
As far as her term . . .
Any state that holds an election can send representatives.
Each state administers its own election.
The danger is the election being interrupted by the virus, which is why we need mail in ballots everywhere.
So call your Senators.
The states that have mail-in ballots have worked out procedures that others can copy.
No long lines at polling places.
Fill out your ballot at home. Plenty of time to check for mistakes.
Trump says, "It's too dangerous to vote!"
Mississippi, Montana, Alabama and other red states cancel their election.
Blue states have worked out a mail-in ballot provision.
LANDSLIDE!
Republicans get to choose between two alternatives:
🔹Voter suppression gets harder
🔹President Pelosi
😂
One advantage of federalism is that states can experiment, and if something works, other states can use the procedures.
I can do a thread on how CA secures mail-in ballots, or you can just believe me 😉
I have good friends from Montana. I hope they're not reading this thread. (I expect to get a text message very soon).
