Latest on #COVID19 - #China added 46 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 81054. It also added 6 new deaths, increasing the total number of that to 3261.
In the epicenter of #Hubei province, the province recorded 0 new case and 5 new deaths. This is the third day in a row that Hubei has no new case, which has raised serious question about the way #China categorize its confirmed cases and the authenticity of its data.
The National Health Commission reported that 45 new cases are imported from abroad, and so far there have been 314 imported cases in total.
This means that #China only added 1 new local case yesterday. As @tony_zy pointed out in his thread, #China has not been publicizing the number of those who are tested positive for #SARS_COV_2 but are not showing symptoms.
Instead, these individuals will be placed under a 14-day quarantine and if they started showing symptoms during that process, then they will become confirmed cases. This means that there could be hundreds of individuals tested positive but not included in the tally...
... because of this tricky way of calculating confirmed case number in #China. China has changed the criteria of calculating confirmed #COVID19 cases multiple times throughout the last two months, likely a way to avoid set off public anxiety or dissatisfaction.

As a Taiwanese, I would like to suggest that implementing #COVID19 containment method from an authoritarian government like #China to any democracy would be unideal for several reasons -
1. #China’s hardcore and draconian lockdown is forceful and arbitrary. Simply stripping away citizen’s freedom and rights works in China because its government holds so much power and there is very little check on its use of those powers.
2. The lack of clear communication of the policies and regulations has created real havoc across #China over the last few months, and when lockdowns are enforced in democratic countries like this, there will for sure be more than verbal complaints.

The irony of placing interned Uighurs into labor-intensive sweatshops is that many of them were extremely skilled businesspeople, intellectuals, or scientists.

The latest move is the long-threatened extension of Chinese spying powers over foreign companies, whose employees are to be prohibited from using working VPNs to communicate with their non-Chinese offices.
These employees now have to use the censored internet & every trade secret & confidential data they transmit to their home offices will be open to capture & use by Chinese authorities & state industries that can funnel proprietary foreign corporate data to domestic competitors.
