NYC has started publishing some really great data on cases in the city -- breakdowns by age, illness status -- and doing it in real time:
Some data that tracks what we've seen in other outbreaks -- elderly most at risk, but people in middle age certainly not immune.
Another common trend -- 95% of people who have died so far had an underlying health condition ... BUT
Keep in mind those underlying health conditions include things like diabetes -- which affects about 10% of the U.S. population. Oh, and hypertension -- 29% of adults. And cancer, heart disease, kidney diseae, etc. That's a LOT of people. Not some tiny, sick fragment.
The bad news is that as a country, we're not that healthy. So "oh well this only affects people with underlying health conditions" isn't greatly comforting.
AND they are making daily updates to their epi curve. We care about the dark red number, not the big, scary-looking light red bars:
Thank you, @nycHealthy for posting this info, and doing it in real time.
Today's data are available here: www1.nyc.gov/assets/doh/dow…
And do they break out hospitalizations by age? YES THEY DO. It grades by age, as you'd expect. Older = more associated w/ hospitalization. Very high rates w 75+, which you'd expect. But still pretty high in the 45-64 crowd and 65-74.
Once again, this is great data transparency. Would be great to have even more granular info on patient comorbidities, but in the meantime, keep it coming @nycHealthy
If you want REAL deep data, Hong Kong has got you. Cases detailed by where they went, status, etc. Pretty remarkable: wars.vote4.hk/en/cases/
+ very detailed, city-level mapping of those cases:
chp-dashboard.geodata.gov.hk/covid-19/en.ht…
Here's our story on this new data: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
