New York asked for healthcare professionals to volunteer for a Surge Healthcare Force.

40,000 HCPs volunteered. 24,000 of them were nurses.

Nurses are the Rosie the Riveter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have a forever-softspot for nurses.

When my son was born prematurely and almost didn’t survive his first 24 hours, it took 27 healthcare professionals caring for him over two weeks to save his life.

22 of them were nurses.

Nurses are heroes. Every day.

For real, it has been twelve and a half years and I still cannot think about the debt I owe to the nurses who cared for my son without choking up.

It was a nurse who patiently talked to me at the worst moments. It was a nurse who swaddled him up so I could first hold him.
Nurses are putting aside their own lives, their own families, their own safety to save other people’s loved ones.

They confront stress and exhaustion and loss every day. And then they get up and do it again.

Our indebtedness to them runs deep and our gratitude is but a start.
