NEW: in yesterday’s UK gov press conf, we heard UK road traffic had risen

We’ve been tracking this at @FinancialTimes for weeks using data from @TomTom, and it’s true:

Londoners are on the roads much more than people in many foreign cities

London is supposedly under a lockdown like those in Paris, Madrid & New York, yet people are still out on the roads in relatively large numbers.

London traffic levels are down significantly on business-as-usual, but still notably higher than in peer cities across Europe and US.

My brilliant colleagues @C_BruceLockhart and @BobHaslett illustrate some important points here:

• There are major doubts over the Chinese numbers
• But there’s less doubting the general pattern — largely containing the outbreak in one region
• US singularly failed to do this
Let’s take a guess and say the Chinese death toll is over 10,000 rather than the 3,000 quoted. That’s still an order of magnitude lower than forecast US death toll of 100k-200k, and the reason will be that China did largely contain this to Wuhan/Hubei.
Plenty of reason to doubt exactly how many died in China, but we know China aggressively surveils and quarantines.

Movements of people who’ve been in Hubei are monitored and restricted, and some reports say when they enter other provinces they’re immediately detected & tested.

First, daily new cases (rather than yesterday’s weekly version)

One of these is not like the others.

Many outbreaks are slowing but in the US every day brings more new cases than the last

How does that look on the old cumulative chart?

I doubled the top of my y-axis from 100k to 200k cases, but the US has broken straight through it 📈

US curve is higher and steeper than any other, as the lack of early testing or lockdowns takes its toll. Action now is too late.
Now onto *daily new deaths*:
• Daily death tolls flattening in Italy & Spain: each new day brings fewer deaths
• But in UK & US the death toll is accelerating. More dead every day than the last, and rate of increase also rising

Now that it appears #coronarvirus was engineered, it makes me wonder if the Chinese spy “tourist” who tried to get into Trumps’ Mar-A-Lago and was arrested by Secret Service. Was that a test to see if a virus-carrying Chinese assassin could penetrate the Trump compound?
Infecting a Secret Service agent while the virus is still in its incubation stage — where the host is nevertheless highly contagious — seems to be a perfect tool for an undetectable assassination.
China hates Trump and hates the fact they can’t buy him. Being forced to deal with him and being publicly bitch-slapped by Trump for their cheating, theft and tyranny has been humiliating. But killing him would start WWIII. But what if they could kill him ANONYMOUSLY?
