Some in my international business network are intermediating sales of Chinese PPE in various parts of the world. From them, I get a fairly depressing picture of governments' acknowledgement of, and preparedness for, the pandemic.
Based on friends' negotiations with LatAm governments, I'm hearing there's still a very lackadaisical attitude. They're buying PPE, but in paltry quantities (relative to their populations), "just in case." They still seem to imagine they won't get hit hard.
African governments, too, are way behind the curve. The virus is already quite active across the continent, but governments are still largely in denial.
As long as FL beaches are crowded, and other failures of social distancing are evident in the U.S., it's hard for an American to mount a 'high horse' about failures elsewhere. But what I'm hearing portends a much longer lasting pandemic, globally, than might have been.
