1. Photo essay thread:

Some people have fled New York. I returned, about 3 weeks ago. I’ve been riding the storm out w friends in Brooklyn w my one true love, New York City.

Today, I had to ride a bike into Manhattan to get face masks a friend lovingly made for me.
2. It was quiet, but not the quietest I’ve ever biked through Manhattan, tho oddly quiet for a lovely weekday afternoon. You can stand in the middle of Broadway.
3. Zuccotti Park, the raging scene of Occupy Wall Street in 2011, was nearly empty
4. This red cube looked lonely
5. Calatrava’s winged ribs soar over almost no one
6. Here’s where the Fed magically made up $2 trillion
Alex is the producer of @planetmoney, which just made a show about how the Fed and the Treasury made all that money podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/985…
8. Pic 6 wasn’t the Fed apparently, but Nobu and Anthropologie, two businesses—to be fair—in which ppl can spend more than $2 trillion on a single visit, actually.

THIS is the Fed
9. @alexgoldmark is one of my bestest BFFs. He brought me the sweetest gift: a homemade mask made by his partner, Liza Stark. Liza is a scholar, maker and designer of wearable tech and her skills will save us.

We greeted each other with air hugs.
10. Alex and I went to Burning Man together for the first time in 2009, so we are used to walking around wide open spaces together while wearing masks and riding bikes—but not usually so far apart & not w so more concrete
11. I found more masks at a regular grocery store on my way home. The stores are well stocked. The sirens are constant, the ppl calm and sparse but more masked everyday. This was likely the last time I’ll be out without a mask for the foreseeable future, if ever again.
12/12 I rode back to Brooklyn. Ppl keep dying. Everyday I know another person who has lost someone. The sadness of the crisis is palpable.

But there is nowhere I would rather be than with my one true love, New York City, even as her beating heart strains.

Fin (for now)
