However, the number of #Covid19 patients in hospital in #Scotland continues to rise, but still falling in #England.
England 8,868 (-9.5% in the last week)
Scotland 1,093 (+19.8%)
Today's data not available for the other nations, but #NIreland heading down while #Wales rising.
Watching Nordic nations closely right now, and things are improving quickly in #Norway at last
A 2nd successive fall in the #Cpvid19 health data today. Most importantly patients in ICU down 6 to 52 while also a small fall in general Covid infections in hospitals, from 534 at 528
#Sweden has reported another high #Covid19 deaths today - 131 fatalities.
Many likely dying "with Covid" but there are 3.4% excess deaths so far in 2022 (credit @dobssi).
However, also must point out in much of the pandemic there were fewer than usual deaths.
#Finland reports lower cases and deaths today compared to last Wednesday. Recently the #Covid19 death rate reached record levels, but still low compared to much of Europe.
However new research into excess deaths shows Covid deaths likely at least double.
Yesterday I said #SouthKorea would almost certainly set a big new record.
Today 171,448 new cases of #Covid19. That's >60k higher than any previous day.
Worse, 99 Covid deaths, the worst daily toll of 2022 so far.
#Thailand closing in on a national record.
Today 21,232 #Covid19 infections, the highest daily total for over 6 months and around 2k from the worst day ever.
Only 39 deaths but that's still the worst day of 2022.
272 #Covid19 deaths reported today, around a third higher than last Wednesday.
Cases now falling though: 66,373 today.
No surprise to see #NewZealand setting another record and breaking 3,000 cases in a single day for the first time.
3,183 is the number of new #Covid19 cases. That's almost exactly 2000 higher than last Wednesday. So still quite a way to go until we reach peak.
#Austria looks like it MAY avoid increasing #Covid19 cases, but infection rate is still very high at 3,000 AD/M and falling much too slowly.
A 10% fall today: 34,409 infections plus another 30 deaths.
Better news from the Baltics today with all 3 countries seeing case falls.
#Latvia is in the worst position right now and only a slight fall today. 11,320 #Covid19 cases (-1%), 15 dead #Estonia 6,564 infections (-22%) and 7 deaths
In #Lithuania cases still falling
I reported here that #Poland's cases started falling a while ago. Today confirmation the death rate's heading down too. Wednesday usually the worst day for reporting of #Covid19 fatalities and 360 more today, but that's 14 fewer than last week and the 2nd successive fall.
#Iceland's still heading up, with an infection rate of over 5,300 AD/M (Average daily cases per million people).
That means 3.7% of the entire population has been infected with #Covid19 in the last week.
2,689 new cases up 200, but could see record 3k tomorrow.
A small rise in patients in ICU to 36 (+2)
But overall Covid hospital numbers fall 38 to 1,721
New cases of the disease down nearly 14k to 29,040
New cases of #Covid19 in #Ireland down only 8.6% this evening, but hospital numbers falling nicely again.
8,058 new infections.
Rates though still more than 2.5 times higher than the UK.
593 Covid patients currently hospitalised, 54 of whom are in ICU.

Govt pledging most citizens won't be unduly affected
Secretary of the Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov says "it can be restricting traffic, additional transport checks, documents checks. These issues are preventive, so that the country remains calm."
Tuesday's #Covid19 thread starts here. The arguments still raging in the #UK about "Living with Covid" following the announcement from the govt. that infected people no need to isolate from Thursday.
All the important data and news updated in this thread throughout the day
However I am commentating on tennis again today; 3 matches, long day.
I do try to reply all your queries but @SimonCalder here answers many that I'm repeatedly asked, using his judgement on the regular Q "when will xxxxland drop testing requirements?"
Not happened yet, but I will be very surprised if Russian tanks are not on Ukrainian territory by the morning. Initially in Donbas territories.
A few more made up "atrocities" or staged attacks will be broadcast by 21st century Lord Haw Haws and then a hot war on the frontline.
My guess is #Ukraine's forces are likely to be pushed back beyond the current frontline, which has been frozen for years. I doubt it will extend to Odesa, Kharkiv or even Mariupol' yet.
It will be symbolic advance, a few small villages, maybe Slovyansk.
I've not been wrong so far
Another very late start for the daily #Covid19 thread.
I have been keeping an eye on things in among my tennis commentary from the Qatar Open tennis.
The only story in the #UK is confirmation of an end to self isolation requirement from Thursday.
Free testing will end on 1 April
#Covid19 cases in Scotland are UP today while the slowing of falling numbers continues in the rest of the #UK
The nationwide fall is only 7.8% with 38,409 registered new infections.
The rest of the day's #Covid19 stats of interest later. Need to get home, eat, follow Ukraine story.
My friends and colleagues there are getting very nervous now.
Wednesday's #Covid19 megathread makes an early start as there's so much news to bring you!
#Omicron takes centre stage in Europe with a raft of records (recap coming up), but #UK ministers are increasingly confident the NHS won't be swamped despite England's lack of restrictions
It turned out to be a terrible Tuesday, not just in #UK, which was just one of TEN European countries to hit all time high daily #Covid19 infection numbers.
Concern in #Norway. The #Omicron wave looked to be beyond the peak; is it making a comeback or is it still delayed Christmas cases?
4,702 new #Covid19 infections, fewer than 100 down on last Weds.
Better health data. 315 in hospital, down 13 since y'day, although 120 are in ICU
This is the start of the daily #Covid19 thread for Tuesday.
So despite big increases in cases and hospitalisations, no further restrictions for #England. How bad will the data be today? We'll find out later and I'll update and analyse all the data worldwide as often as possible:
Boris has urged you all to be cautious in the packed bars and nightclubs on New Year's Eve, so that's ok then!
