This book is a revision of my DPhil Dissertation at @UniofOxford @StCrossCollege which covered Iranian & Saudi Mutual (mis)Representations 1979-2009 & subsequent work that covered this rivalry up to 2021 as an Academic Visitor at @StAntsCollege @OxfordMEC . 2/25

However, this is book is different! It is the first monograph to study Iranian-Saudi Rivalry mutually & through representation/construction of the ‘Other’ from 3 dimensions (media, political,religious discourse) in the original languages & frm primary sources of both states. 6/25

The book is composed of five parts, each focusing on an era/presidency, from the early days of the 1979 Iranian Revolution up to the assassinations of #Soleimani & #Fakhrizadeh. There's an epilogue that discusses the first year of the #Biden & Six months of the #Raisi admin. 7/25

Part 1: Focuses on how #Iran & #SaudiArabia shaped the identity of the "Self" & "Other" since the early days of post-revolutionary period. Events include #IRP assassinations, #Mecca Siege, Iran-Iraq War, Fahd & Saddam, #Khomeini death, & rise of #Rafsanjani-#Khamenei duo 8/25

Part 2: Iranian-Saudi Detente & Rapprochement in post-war period of the 90s. Events include Iraq invasion of #Kuwait 1990, Afgh. Taliban War, Sahwa Movement, #BinLaden, #Khatami -#Abdullah Rapprochement in #OIC #Tehran, #Khobar Bombings, US-Saudi relations under #Clinton 9/25

Part 3: Beginning of end of rapprochement. #Saddam falls in 2003 & @Ahmadinejad1956 elected. Events: Shift in Iranian & Saudi discourses after US invasion, "Shi'i Crescent", sectarian war, Al-Askari Shrine bombings, #Hezbollah-#Israel 2006 war,& #Hamas-#Israel war 2008/09. 10/25

Part 4: Uprisings, #Revolutions, Collapse of rapprochement. Events: #Iran "Green Revolution", #SaudiArabia's Baqi protests in 2009, #ArabSpring & #Iran|ian-#Saudi discourses towards #Tunisia, #Egypt, #Bahrain,#Syria war,@HassanRouhani -@BarackObama #nuclear #JCPOA , & #ISIS 11/25
