#Ukraine's President @Zelenskyy publishes this video from the capital #Kyiv, writing
"All night & all morning, the enemy terrorises the civilian population. Kamikaze drones + missiles are attacking all of Ukraine. A residential building was hit in Kyiv."
In his reaction to the bombing of civilian districts of #Kyiv, Mr Zelenskyy continued:
"The enemy can attack our cities, but it won’t be able to break us. The occupiers will get only fair punishment and condemnation of future generations. We will get victory."
There were separate attacks on the centre of #Kyiv this morning. The first drones hit shortly before 7am while around 90 minutes later more drones hit.
Fires caused further explosions. 18 people have so far been rescued from the rubble, with two more trapped. Fatalities unknown
As the deadly drone headed to the centre of #Kyiv it was caught on film.
Rescue workers, police, journalists were all in the centre of #Kyiv following the first strike when the second attack happened. A cynical "double tap" from #Russia's terrorist regime.
Attack drones were also sent to kill citizens and civilian targets of #Dnipropetrovsk region. Some were taken down by air defence, but it's officials report energy infrastructure has again been hit.
In #Odessa the regional command say they shot down drones - explosions were heard but hopefully only the Iranian killing machines being taken out.
Back to #Kyiv and @Reuters just released this video showing emergency services desperately trying to take an old lady to safety with a drone about to hit the streets of #Ukraine's capital:
Am I reading too much in to this?
Amid the media blackout in #Kherson region, the British daily Intel update specifically mentions #Melitopol and #Russia's "aviation presence"- we've had reports of big explosions at the airfield recently!
Back to #Kyiv and in this video as defenders try to shoot down one of #Russia's Iranian kamikaze drone, you can clearly see it heading towards its target and a second later the impact, explosion, smoke and alarms.
The number of #Russia's soldiers killed in the war continues to be above the daily mean.
Obviously, numbers of drones shot down has increased dramatically since #Iran starting feeding #Russia weapons.
Artillery systems destroyed above average too in #Ukraine's figures today:
Last night I wrote about a huge fire in #Mykolaiv (#Nikolaev) after #Russia strikes. The Kremlin, as always, says they hit critical infrastructure, with fuel dumps thought to have been hit
However, 15 tons of sunflower oil flowed onto the streets with storage tanks hit by drones
All schools and universities in #Kyiv have reverted to remote distance learning for the time being.
It follows the drone attacks on the capital of #Ukraine this morning.
A military aircraft has smashed into a block of apartments in #Yeysk in #Krasnodar region. The resort town is only about 40km from #Ukraine over the Taganrog channel.
Three videos to bring you. First the crash happening:
2/3
Next the panic of residents in #Yeysk when they saw the plane crash.
I guess they fear the worst when they know their country is bombing the f**k out of innocent civilians just across the water.
Another big prisoner swap, with 108 of #Ukraine's female service personnel freed from #Russia's jails.
37 were survivors of the #Azovstal siege in #Mariuopol'
Russians report 110 of their citizens were freed, including "72 sailors from civilian ships."
I had the pleasure to speak with Andriy Shevchenko when he was with Chelsea and also later as Ukraine manager. Unfailingly polite and passionate. I didn't always agree with his politics, but 100% admire his conduct throughout the war. #Legend
At least 4 dead and 25 injured when a Russian military plane crashed into an apartment block in #Yeysk.
The pilot said he wasn't shot down, the plane developed a fault.
Now six people confirmed dead.
The families of those who died in the #Yeysk accident are promised 1m rubles, but as we've seen with many military deaths, victims rarely get the full amount, if anything.
First a developing story in the ongoing #Russia "spy" trail in #Norway.
Police have closed Bergen airport in Norway amid reports of another drone.
Recently 2 Russian "tourists" have been arrested with drones and masses of potentially sensitive data.
Also a big development in #Iran's involvement in the war.
As well as trying to stamp on a potential revolution at home, the Iranians have given killer drones to #Russia and now the NYT says they've also sent military experts to occupied #Crimea.
Well despite #Iran's denials, The #UK government is in no doubt that it's their "kamikaze" drones which are causing death and destruction, involved in a string of war crimes in #Ukraine.
No "maybe" or "possibly" - Britain says IT IS Iran providing #Russia with killing machines.
A very high number of #Russia's soldiers became fertiliser in #Ukraine's soil over the past 24 hours*
In addition, 35 drones shot down and a continued high amount of Artillery systems still being picked out by the Defenders.
Day 2⃣3⃣5⃣ of the war. #Russia's illegal war on #Ukraine. Welcome to my needs feed for Sunday 16 October, all the stories in one thread updated throughout the day.
The British update confirms #Russia is almost certainly running low on weapons, but there's nothing new in the daily report - I'm guessing written by the "weekend" staff!
Day 233 of #Ukraine's brave defence against the 'mighty' #Russian army
Here's my daily news thread
For the last time I ask you to spare whatever you can for our appeal for Ukrainian soldiers. Last chance to give. Deadline 11:45 UK, 13:45 Kyiv, 06:45 EST
News from London that #Russia is actively preparing for the battle of #Kherson.
Personally I don't think that's imminent, with a push south from further east more likely with an eventual pincer movement
I've not published #Russia's daily losses for a few days.
Dead Russian soldiers heading back up, and 6 helicopters - four in 20 minutes (see yesterday's thread)
