Nobody is shoehorning diverse characters into books. Making a book absent of any diversity remains a choice you can make, just a boring one.
People love to make this sort of statement, but where does it come from? There are no diversity enforcers, you can still read white books
No matter how it's phrased, it reads like wanting to squash diverse voices because they exist in media, rather than letting them be.
*what is the point* of these statements other than that. If diverse voices exist in media, and that's upsetting to you, think about that.
A lot of well-meaning liberal white folks should think about whether their statements reflect the world they truly want to see.
Even if people were shoehorning diversity into their books - is it that upsetting/challenging to see diversity where you wouldn't expect it?
