I'm a little confused by those of you now rubbing my nose in news that armed local resident appears to have disrupted TX shooter 1/
I'm obviously glad that the shooter was stopped. But you do realize that this guy killed 26 ppl first w/ an AR 15 that's *legal* in USA? 2/
Armed ppl *do* use guns in defense, they are *FAR MORE LIKELY* to use a gun to harm others or themselves. I mean, it's not even close 3/
Look at 2013. According to FBI stats, there were:

7,838 reported criminal firearm homicides
211 justifiable homicides 4/
The point I'm making is: the availability and accessibility of guns in the United States results in far more *death* than heroism 5/
Also, States that make it easier to carry guns in public see *higher* levels of gun crime than those that don't news.stanford.edu/2017/06/21/vio… 6/
However you cut the data, it shows that *fewer guns* result in safer communities and less crime. That's what I will always advocate for. 7/7
