THREAD: Ok, I'm fed up with how pervasive the modern GOP's anti-healthcare rhetoric is. So many people have bought into the lie that it's ok to only look out for themselves. That somehow "making America great" means ignoring our neighbors in need. 1/
That we can continue to achieve economic prosperity while people drown in outrageous medical bills. That the life of someone who can't afford insanely high treatment costs isn't worth saving. These are lies. They are un-American. They are unacceptable. 2/
A clear majority of people aren't asking for a free ride. They're asking for a system that it's possible to stay afloat in. They're asking for their kids, for their parents, and for themselves to have a fighting chance at making it out of daily life alive. 3/
This is the real tragedy. People spend years fighting our convoluted medical billing system, which really isn't a system at all but a series of continuous errors. They lose out on time with terminally ill loved ones, on working, on pursuing happiness. 4/
And why? To feed the new wave of partisanship. To feed the Us vs Them mentality that has been so masterfully exploited in the last 25 years. It's easier to force people into teams & let them rip each other apart then it is to work together to solve problems like healthcare. 5/
Being an American means we have responsibilities along with our rights. Some of those responsibilities mean working to care for those of us who can't care for themselves. Why? Because THAT'S what greatness is. We are measured by how we treat those with the least. 6/
I need you to join me in taking on the responsibility of helping to care for everyone in our society. I will not pass by those who suffer and do nothing. I will not allow fragile kids to have their healthcare thrown in jeopardy. I will not allow profits to rule over people. 7/
Why? Because I'm an American, and it's time the United States of America lives up to the ideals in our founding documents. We can do it. We have the financial and technological abilities. What we need to cement is the will. Elect leaders who will not pass by those who suffer. 8/
We need to shoulder our responsibilities, own the promise of our country's birth, and extend that promise to every citizen. A healthy country is one with a bright future. It is the country our patriots fought for, sacrificed for. It is the one we must leave to our children. #/
