The crazy thing is that Kodak isn't even the worst example of throwing cryptocurrency buzzwords about to pimp your share price. Even chilled beverage manufacturers are in on the action.

Its not even as though KodakCoin is a particularly clever name.
My money now is on someone buying up the name rights for @blockbuster and renaming it as BlockchainBuster before quickly selling on for a profit.
It makes as much sense as most of the other stories.
Step 1 - announce a problem.
Step 2 - Claim blockchain can solve it (giving no explanation).
Step 3 - Profit (in the very immediate term).

Although investors who look at a long term graph will see that the once venerable Eastman Kodak's prospects are not looking quite so rosy.

So Kodak is basically just launching an equivalent to @GettyImages or @Shutterstock in an already developed market, but claims that Blockchain will somehow make this different.
Can anyone explain to me how this is really that different to what @digimarc and no doubt others have been doing since the mid 90s.
FFS, they even had the plugin included with every copy of Photoshop for years.
What part of the idea is new?

It's worth looking into the causes of rationing post WW2.
We imported a lot and didn't have the foreign currency to pay for it.
By 1945 we were spending 52% of GDP on the military and had trouble adjusting to a peacetime economy.
In August 1945, the USA terminated Lend Lease, the program that had distributed food, oil, and materiel to the UK (amongst others). This happened very suddenly. Even his already in transit at that point now had to be paid for.
At this stage, the UK comment afford to pay for imports of food due to a lack of exports. In 1945, Britain's exports were ⅓ of their pre war level.
This also caused a shortage of USD, which were needed to service Britain's war debt and maintain imports from the United States.

The speech is still remarkably prescient on so many levels:
Of the need for unilateralism and how Britain can't go it alone.
Of how this wasn't an objection to any and all military intervention.
Of how the problems although bit fully crystallised could be foreseen in advance.
Of how those who disagreed should not be seen as traitors.
Of the need to listen to the reports from experts.
The idea that an enemy can simultaneously be seen as well and on the verge of collapse, but still seem as a clear and present danger.
The list goes on.

1/ *Centralized* apps building atop decentralized protocols may be the winning combination, each furthering the adoption of the other.
2/ As many have pointed out, “decentralize all the things” is a mistake. Decentralize the things that benefit from decentralization.
3/ Starting with centralized apps (think @coinbase @circlepay etc), if you’ve been paying attention, they are utilizing an increasing amount of decentralized protocols & open-source crypto infrastructure, to the benefit of their end users.

With Blockchain being the new trend, taking a look at what could be a trend in the future. Though slowly gaining traction, sooner or later, it could be a part of our live, much like some of the recent tech advances. And this would be one of the growth areas for IT ahead.
In very simple terms, concept of block chain, is a list of records, called blocks, that are linked to each other using a cryptographic hash key of previous block. What this means is each record is linked to the other digitally, and it's just not possible to alter randomly.
While the blockchain is a decentralized mechanism for storing data, the cryptographic hash linkage between one block and another managed by a peer to peer network means you can't modify the data in one block, without altering in other blocks, making it much more safer.
