Topline analysis: The @realDonaldTrump administration is using tax dollars to weaponize the @HHSGov Office of CIVIL RIGHTS (!) against #LGBTQ people. #RxforDiscrimination @HHSOCR

This rule attempts to turn oppressors into victims. #RxforDiscrimination

The purpose of this rule is clear: To provide a pathway for providers to refuse treatment to people. Whatever happened to "do no harm"? #RxforDiscrimination

Through this regulation, a provider with a "moral objection" doesn’t even have to give you information about where else you could go to get the health care you need. #RxForDiscrimination

In this rule, "sterilization" = "gender transition," which, by the way, is MEDICALLY NECESSARY health care (more on that here: bit.ly/2mVFPFH). #RxForDiscrimination

This rule is a blatant attack by the federal government against #LGBTQ people in need of health care. HEALTH CARE. The so-called "Office of Civil Rights" is being weaponized to actively work against the civil rights of people in this country. #RxForDiscrimination

This rule would allow religious counseling by health care providers. And we know what that means: conversion therapy. AKA, a form of torture that is not only ineffective, but actively harmful, and a violation of medical ethics. #RxForDiscrimination

Also note that this proposed rule doesn’t just protect health care institutions and medical providers who have religious objections — it shields anyone with a “moral” objection, too. #RxForDiscrimination

Not only is a government unit now tasked with ensuring that health care providers get to refuse care to #LGBTQ people (and #HIV+ people, and women, etc), THEY DON’T EVEN NEED TO GIVE YOU A REFERRAL. #RxForDiscrimination

AND this proposed rule allows these health care providers to do so at taxpayer expense. #RxForDiscrimination

It would allow these health care providers TO KEEP FEDERAL FUNDING AND ACCREDITATION even though they are violating laws that prohibit discrimination in the provision of health care, and violating medical ethical rules that also forbid such discrimination. #RxForDiscrimination

These refusals will hit hard against seniors, people living w/ disabilities & people w/ low income (aka those already vulnerable). Publicly-funded Medicare & Medicaid programs will become boosters of religious refusals of essential medical care. #RxForDiscrimination

.@realDonaldTrump admin's allowance of health workers both to refuse care & to refuse referrals for needed services will allow those w/ religious motives not just to refuse care but also block patients’ other routes of access. This is the worst medicine! #RxForDiscrimination
