The lede is written to portray the version of events the way those critical of McCabe (and Clinton) want—that McCabe stalled in Oct 2016 after possibly new Clinton emails found on Anthony Weiner’s laptop & the DOJ IG is focused on that failure. 3/ 
But what this reporting & other details actually show is that FBI agents in the NY field office felt they were running out of time to get dirt on Clinton before the election & took matters into their own hands. McCabe was the one acting properly & consistent w DOJ policy. 4/
Late Sept 2016: NY FBI agents investigating Weiner discover his laptop contained thousands of work emails from his wife to Clinton. McCabe reportedly told them to look at the metadata to see if relevant to then-closed Clinton email probe. 5/ 
Late Sept-Mid Oct 2016: FBI agents getting upset that in their eyes “nothing much” happening with Weiner laptop emails. But why the rush? This isn’t a crime in progress. Investigation is closed. Only reason for urgency is to get damaging info on Clinton before election. 6/ 
Oct 24, 2016: WSJ runs story reporting McCabe’s wife’s campaign for Va State Sen received $500K from a PAC linked to VA Gov Terry McCauliffe. But WSJ story plays up McCauliffe’s Clinton connection. WSJ reporter was @devlinbarrett. 7/ wsj.com/articles/clint…
McCabe’s wife’s campaign & her contributions were obviously public. McCabe had no role in the Clinton email investigation while his wife was running for Va State Sen. McCabe had received guidance from FBI on avoiding conflicts. So why this story then? 8/ huffingtonpost.com/entry/andrew-m…
Clearly to apply pressure on McCabe and highlight that possible FBI HQ requests to determine the relevance of the emails first was actually a plot to protect Clinton. 9/

Oct 28, 2016: Comey sends the infamous letter to Chaffetz saying they’re looking at new Clinton emails. This move violated long-standing DOJ policy to refrain from taking steps could influence an election. Why would he do that? 12/

FBI quickly concluded that the emails were duplicates or not relevant. McCabe’s preference for determining their relevance before taking action looks prudent rather than evidence he was “unwilling to move forward” on Clinton as today’s WaPo story suggests IG is examining. 14/
The anti-Clinton faction within the FBI manipulated FBI leadership before the election and it appears that they are back trying to manipulate the IG investigation and the coverage of it. We can’t fall for it again. END
