The 'Last' Witch of Ireland : The Burning of Bridget Cleary

Bridget Cleary, born as Bridget Boland around 1869 in Ballyvadlea, County Tipperary, Ireland. She married to Michael Cleary in August 1887 where she works as a dressmaker's apprentice.
In 1895, Bridget had evudently been ill for several days. Along that time, her condition was sufficiently grave that a priest administer the last rites.
Over the next few days, several of her friends and family members administered a number of home remedies including one ritual that push her to her later demise.
Bridget's father & husband then accused her of being a fairy sent to take her place. They throw urine on her and carried over the fireplace to cast the fairy out.
Around March 1895, she was reported missing and later her burnt corpse was found in a shallow grave on 22 March.
Legal hearings for Bridget's murder ran from 1 April to 6 April 1895. Nine person had been charged including her husband.
Michael Cleary was found guilty of manslaughter and spent 15 years in prison. He was released from Maryborough prison on 28 April 1910.
