In relation to #SalisburyChemicalAttack this is interesting. Senior Russian official says #Novichok isn’t subject to Chemical Weapons Convention, when asked if stockpiles had been destroyed. With this statement he confirms what Russia hasn’t done hitherto - #Novichok exists

Incidentally, I am told that #Novichok DOES fall under the Chemical Weapons Convention despite Russian claims to the contrary. Awaiting something official from @OPCW though.

The @OPCW worked with Russia to destroy ‘all’ its chemical weapon stockpiles. This was completed in Sept last year. But now Russia saying #Novichok group of agents not subject to that programme of stockpile destruction.

The Russian official who’s quoted by Interfax as saying that #Novichok doesn’t fall under the Chemical Weapons Convention is Vladimir Uyba, the head of the Russian Federal Biomedical Agency. Here he is with President Putin a couple of years ago.
