See, this is the logical quandary. Accidentally imprison someone and deprive them of their property for the wrong reasons, and police departments risk lawsuits. Hold back, and we get Parkland and Youtube. There isn't a trick or a clear cut solution to this. Too many factors.
Its why there needs to be a stronger Societal Immune System. More faith in individuals. Right now, the vast majority of people are sane, thinking people who aren't going to go out of their way to fuck with everyone else.
Really, even the Democrats, when given power, don't go as far as they COULD. An individual Democrat isn't going to go out of their way to abuse your independence. Annoy you a bit? Maybe. But there's nothing that keeps you from just walking away and leaving them ranting.
The Societal Immune System is our ability as a society to respond when someone DOES violate this societal nonaggression pact, the violation of the understanding we should all leave each other the fuck alone.
Nominally, we have police. The big alphas of our packs to chase away the predators. Problem is, the predators are already present in amongst our herd; the alphas showing up to deal with them only occurs AFTER they've done damage.
So, we have to have our own defense mechanisms. Weapons are one such defense mechanism. Except we were somehow saddled with weapon-free zones, where most mass shootings take place. We have a constant back-and-forth cultural struggle over how many people should have defenses.
So, our Societal Immune System is WEAK. Police aren't omnipresent, and gun free zones are statistically the least likely place for there to be any defense mechanisms. Locked doors are fucking worthless the minute someone gets inside. Security cameras only let you see, not stop.
A gun free zone is always one handgun away from turning into a goddamn shooting gallery.
So, while the solution shouldn't be to arm everyone, getting rid of gun free zones and encouraging responsible gun culture to spread is the avenue that solves the inherent problem of a lack of defense mechanisms, strengthens the Societal Immune System
And, most importantly, doesn't fuck with the Societal Nonaggression Pact, ie we stay the fuck out of everyone else's business and don't constantly watch our neighbors for the next one to go fucking nuts and shoot up someplace. We just be prepared in case it does happen. /end
