Meanwhile, no one has been disciplined for this false FBI leak days before the election claiming that Clinton was about to be indicted in the Clinton Foundation investigation.
From the OIG report, it does seem like the conclusion that McCabe lacked candor in various interviews is well supported. And that's a big deal. But it's not as big or nationally important as another matter that is at the heart of the OIG report, but is referenced only indirectly:
Individuals within the FBI were leaking info about Clinton investigations with the goal of undermining her presidential campaign, and consequently supporting the election of Donald Trump. In terms of importance, that overshadows everything else in the report. Or it should.
McCabe got involved in this mess when others in the FBI tried to undermine Clinton by undermining the FBI's investigation of her. McCabe was pissed because he was being accused of trying to shut down Clinton investigations, when in reality he'd been adamant that they continue.
McCabe's conduct was petty. He authorized the release of info to WSJ about his record of advocating for overt steps to be taken in investigating the Clinton Foundation during the election. As the OIG report found, his motivation to do was aimed at defending his own integrity.
McCabe wasn't alone, though. Some in the FBI released information to harm Clinton, with the goal of helping Trump. Others released harmful information about Clinton as a public display of proof that they did not want to help her, with the goal of protecting the FBI's reputation.
Meanwhile, with Trump, the FBI was giving an impressive demonstration of its ability to keep the investigation of a pres. candidate a secret.

And when some stuff did leak, the FBI responded by leaking false claims that the investigation had come up empty.
