Hi my name is Jericho Brown, and I’m writing in love and support for my friend and colleague, the great American writer @randajarrar ... It seems to me that a lot of people are upset because Randa did two things that make total sense:
1. She asked herself an intellectual question and gave it a radical answer: “How man racist things do you have to do before I call you a racist?” If we pay close attention to what she tweeted she’s long decided that there is no room for any racism.
Randa Jarrar has every right to decide that someone’s racist remarks and that that person’s proximity to racism makes that person racist. That’s actually not strange at all.
Randa is not the first person to characterize Barbara and the other Bushes as racist based on things they’ve done. Way too much of America would be unemployed if we fired people because of this.
2. She characterized the Bush Presidents at war mongers. Where exactly is the lie there? And why are people surprised that an Arab American woman might see the Bushes in this way? I’m sorry, but there’s only honesty here. No news!
I think it is very important for us to support one another when we are attacked for simply telling the truth. I want to make sure everyone understands that none of Randa’s comments are far-fetched as it relates to how she’s identified the Bush family.
I stand by @randajarrar and I completely understand that she and others can very well and with reason feel joy when very powerful people die, especially if those are people to whom we can trace the unnecessary murder of millions.
I mean Barbara Bush’s son did take us into a war on a lie. That’s a fact. And she did raise him. That’s another fact. @randajarrar is a human being. If some of us can find vindication in the awful actions and words of our US President, then...
Jarrar can most certainly find joy in the an awful moment for the Bush family to whom many of us attribute national and international evils.
And now I’m going to check my mentions and be about the business of blocking 😂😂
Oh I should add here that this is a moment the the professors at @Fresno_State and the state schools throughout California need to band together on her behalf whether they agree with her or not....
This is clearly not the time for ANY college professor to risk the right to criticize, however harshly, any political dynasty.
