The #SanDiego papers reported that mom joined the Coast Guard "Reserve." In fact, she was full-time uniformed military. ALL women who enlisted at the start of WWII were classified as "auxiliary reservists"—even those sent overseas, a slight later corrected by an Act of Congress. 
Because my mom was only "reserve," the military was going to deny her a color guard and bury her only as a 'military spouse." My mother would have been furious — so I raised hell. sandiegouniontribune.com/obituaries/sd-…
