Joining in on the #INSAR2018 reflections thread (also my first thread, so bear with me!)... 1/n
1. International conferences are such a good way to catch up with collaborators. Being in the same room as someone is so much better than video conferencing! 2/n
2. You will never get to see everyone/everything you want to... but twitter is fantastic for catching up on the sessions you miss 3/n
3. There’s been some fantastic progress with involving autistic people. Shout outs to @Autistica and their podcast, as well as the autistic people who attended and participated, physically and virtually. Also loving flapplause and steps towards using more respectful language 4/n
4. But we still have a long way to go before #INSAR2019 is truly centred around (and driven by) autistic people and their communities. More accessible locations and funds for attendance are just some of the steps which could be taken. 5/n
5. Some highlights: @Cathy2709 saying ‘autism researchers have prediction errors’, @HappeLab ‘s visionary description of the barriers faced by autistic women, @Sarah_NottsUni ‘s heartbreaking work on suicide. 6/n
6. (And a personal highlight was definitely making my conference presentation debut on a stage that the Beatles have performed on!) 7/n
7. Conferences are exhausting, particularly when you are losing your voice. Sleep whenever you can and try not to stay out until 2am, especially if you want to attend a 7.15 SIG! 8/n
8. Don’t feel bad if you don’t make it to all the 7.15 SIGs. Try to take some time to actually see the city! 9/n
9. One of the best feelings in the world is sharing your hard work with people, and getting positive feedback. Thank you to everyone who has responded to my research, positively or negatively. You have all inspired me to go back to UCL and work even harder! 10/n
10. But for now.... rest! And see you all in Montreal :) 11/11
* @AutisticaUK - oops!
