#Fact 1
It is thought that the ancient Egyptians first domesticated cats, the oldest known pet cat was found in a 9,500-yr-old grave on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The grave predates early Egyptian art depicting cats by 4,000+ yrs.
Cats domesticated humans, I guess.
#Fact 2
During the time of the Spanish Inquisition, Pope Innocent VIII condemned cats as evil and thousands of cats were burned. Well, the widespread killing of cats led to an explosion of the rat population, which exacerbated the effects of the Black Death.

The Vietnam episode is just one part of Forrest Gump.. FG wasnt about recruiting morons in the army.. But Aamir Khan has insulted the army, A Sikh shaves & crops hair for the army (which is false) turns a brave Lt of F/Gump into a Paki terrorist. LSC is BS
Secondly @sri9011 It wasnt just McNamara Morons.. The US had a draft policy in place at that time & even today.. whether its US or India.. its mostly the poor sods (like Blacks in the US) that join the army & become frontline Jawans that mostly die..
FG comes from the Racist south in the US (Alabama, one of the Bible belt states & also a stronghold of KKK) but still does not act as a Racist.. Haramis of LSC turned a Pak namazi terrorist into a freeloading tourist in India selling underwears.. LOL!..

When Manhattan was being built by Europeans, lime quarries were far up Hudson valley. They learned from the Lenape that in Manhattan, you don't need lime rock! You can make lime by just burning ____, residue from a (then) plentiful food source. What unusual source?
Some said sea shells. Manhattan didn't have any real beaches. What it did have was a wall of billions of oysters. And oyster shells are EXTREMELY dense in lime.

So it was oyster shells used to build a lot of Manhattan. Removing the wall that for millennia was a flood wall. Sigh. Image
I remember reading that if the Europeans had kept oyster harvesting at a sustainable level like the first nations did for millennia, that natural oyster wall would have kept Manhattan safe from the kinds of floods that hit us every year now cos of climate change.

Irony much?

Ooh cool #NYC #trivia about my backyard!

Until 1956, there was an elevated train line along 3rd Ave that served as an unofficial border between the rich & the poor (many of whom lived under the elevated train tracks) in lower Manhattan. "Wrong side of the tracks" literally

Greenwich Village to the west of the tracks was a hip artisty touristy expensive in place even then.

When the 3rd Ave tracks were demolished in 1956, the city & realtors hoped to "gentrify" the parts east of the track and attract a more upscale crowd to the area.

That part of #NYC didn't really have a designated name cos it was mostly tenements & poor people.

Realtors noticed many Greenwich Village artists starting to move into the eastern parts. And they thought of a great "branding" idea to sell that area as a result.

1. The Islamification of Bollywood didnt strike me till I often heard that song "Allah jaane kya hoga aage.. Oh maula jaane kya hoga" on the radio in the 1990s under old songs.. I just wondered what Muslim movie that was that this song was so popular...
2. To my utter disbelief . the "Allah jaane kya hoga" was from a movie called "Hariyali aur Rasta" (1962).. When I checked.. there was not a SINGLE Muslim character in that movie.. So they just dumped Allah-Maula songs as "Item songs".. @RituRathaur
3. Then I checked other movies too.. There was a big hit called "Arzoo" (1965)... (Rajendra Kumar-Sadhana-Feroze Khan).. again ZERO Muslim characters.. all pure Hindu characters with Godly names.. But all songs are Islamised... RK even becomes a Muslim Qawal in one of the songs..

We keep reading or hearing folks saying
" Unlearning is the new Learning."

But what exactly do they mean by this ? 🤔

A 🧵 based on my limited understanding & implementation of
Learning, Unlearning & Relearning.

*Pics are from the Internet.

Our learning process begins the day we are born & continues till the day we decay and die.

However consciously our learning is restricted to just a few quality years.
The rest is mostly sub(un)conscious.

Now therein lies the problem & the solution !
Interesting #Trivia

The subconscious mind goes beyond learning new skills. It basically stores our beliefs & determines and monitors when & what information must be sent to the conscious mind.

Ever observed how a child is not afraid of anything including 🔥 initially?🤔

💫 Christmas 🎄

The oldest English language reference to Christams as the occasion celebrating the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus comes from Old English "Cristes mæsse" (i.e. Mass on Christ's Day), eventually becoming one word mid 14th C
Putting aside debated connections to pagan celebrations of the winter solstice (such as the Norse Yule & the Roman Saturnalia), the earliest known celebration of Christmas was some time in the 4th C, spreading to Egypt by the 430s & to England by the late 500s.
As there is no mention in the Bible of the birthdate of Jesus, with many sources in fact suggestion that his birth was more likely in spring than in winter, Dec. 25 was chosen for its symbolism rather than its historical accuracy

Genetic engineering can be used to transfigure human stem cells and study infectious diseases, genetic disorders, and cancers. Human organoids are 3D culture systems derived from stem cells.
Organoid models allow standard conformation because they came from cell sources that can be expanded over time. With recombinant DNA technology, the possibility to recreate the architecture and physiology of organs in the human body with remarkable detail heightened.
It provides scientific opportunities to unravel scientific studies regarding human diseases that are not yet explored, as well as complement animal models, to understand diseases without actually affecting public health.

Gene therapy is a technique that uses genes to treat or prevent disease in individuals. Instead of using drugs or surgery, a disease is treated by inserting, replacing, or inactivating a particular gene in the patient’s cells. ImageImage
One of the main focuses of this technique is the optimization of delivery vehicles such as plasmids, nanostructures, and viruses. Improvements in vector engineering, delivery, and safety have placed viral vectors as the preferred medium for gene therapy.
These viral vectors are used to treat a wide spectrum of diseases such as metabolic, cardiovascular, muscular, hematologic, ophthalmologic, and infections diseases, as well as different types of cancers.

A propos some of the recent discussion on re-envisioning #Lebanon's political system, today's bit of 'useless' #Trivia is dedicated to
𝘍𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 🙃

The term federalism as a political union is first attested in 1787 referencing American federalism..

In its broadest sense, federalism actually seeks a strong central government along with the distribution of power between the central government & constituent entities, & thrives on negotiation between the constituents & central authority.

The term itself is derived from..

'Federal' which in fact originates from theological rather than political discourse. In the 17th century the term referred to covenants between humans & God, from the Latin foedus meaning covenant or treaty, from Proto-Indo-European root *bheidh meaning to trust.
