This year’s Halloween fest is heavily biased towards Hammer Horror, generally chronologically by release. So far: Curse of Frankenstein; Revenge of Frankenstein; Horror of Dracula and now… Image
Most of these films were unobtainable here until the 2000s-Only ones I managed to see growing up were Evil of Frankenstein (arguably worst in Hammer’s series), and the 3rd and 4th Draculas (Prince of Darkness & Dracula has Risen From the Grave) plus occasionally Dracula 1972.
When I finally saw Horror of Dracula it quickly became my favorite of the novel adaptations, although they all have their moments-plan to watch a bunch more during this season, including Langella’s 78 version & the BBC one with Louis Jordan (1st time)

#Cujo ( Lewis Teague 1983 )

If you’ve caught the first episode of #Dracula, you’ll know there’s a particularly gruesome scene involving our titular anti-hero, our kick-arse Sister Agatha and a wolf carcass that really puts ~the SEX in SFX~ (minor spoilers ahead):
According to series co-creator @Markgatiss (see: Sherlock, Doctor Who), the only way the prosthetics team, Dave and Lou Elsey of @igorstudios, could create the tough but breakable and translucent plastic needed in the scene was to melt down... *checks notes* 80 flesh-lights
Apparently the specialised latex that lines the inner, uh, tube of a flesh-light is the only material flexible enough to mimic the undead, bloody placenta that the scene required.

And for those of you playing along at home, don’t worry - they were box fresh.

Ending a bit weird but overall #Dracula was immense. Reinvention of van Helsing (and brilliant Molly Wells) superb. All the better by the smattering of Doctor Who references.
Come to think of it Claes Bang would be a cracking Doctor...

I’m loving the new BBC #Dracula but am seeing a few grumbles that the bisexual / homosexual sauciness is unnecessarily salacious and a shocking new addition to the narrative. No, it’s not. Dracula is absolutely loaded with homosexual subtext.

(CW - rudie nudies)
This has been quite thoroughly researched by critics such as Xavier Aldana Reyes in ‘Dracula Queered’…

Top 3 all time faves in order I found them:

Sheriff of Nottingham (film #princeofthieves played by Alan Rickman)
Dr H Lecter 1/

#Dracula bc he is FASCINATING as a character. He represents a lot of Victorian fears: he is the foreign invader immigrant, spreading corruption at the heart of the Empire; he is an old man daring to adapt & combat his irrelevance in the modern world.
#authorconfession D11:

I can’t begin to stress how many levels I love #Dracula on as a problematic antagonist. He is the suave, sophisticated seducer of respectable women that respectable men are repulsed by but secretly envy. I did a Moment on my Drac tweets so I’ll stop.
