I asked @tylermorganwall to try to reproduce the @washingtonpost 3D visualizations in R using the same flight data we used with #rayshader and #rayrender and boy did he deliver washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/…
@tylermorganwall The DC building models were from openstreetmaps! And then he went and put us in the helicopter's point of view from that night going through Chinatown, passing the Portrait Museum and ending up in Judiciary Square. It reminded me of the trench run in A New Hope.

In general, when a habitat has more #birds, it also has more of all living things. In scientific terms, we say that birds are good surrogates or indicators of #biodiversity.

This is excellent, because counting birds is really easy. Many of them sing or call. So, we can do a field survey of birds in a habitat and use that number to find a relative count of all biodiversity.

3/5 Part of the reason it took so long was I wanted to a dead simple interface for 3D plots. No complex interfaces or APIs to learn-it's one line of code to transform your plot into 3D.
